BEM VINDOS!

Sigam o blogue e convidem amigos.

- Sinhozinho Cardoso no livro "Além do ódio"

Quem suportaria presenciar tais cenas?

Cá vai a carta:

Your Excellency:

I am impressed by the number of people that are either going vegetarian or turning to organic food. If the consumer is more and more making this option it means it should be supported! How? By giving better conditions/economical aid to conscientious farmers that do not treat intelligent creatures capable of emotions much like human emotions: fear, sadness, panic, pain, humiliation, loyalty etc etc you can make a very simple and quick search on google and you will find many scientists making that claim. For example: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/europe/article4595810.ece http://www.helgadhave.be/2010/animal/part-i-of-the-interview-with-marc-bekoff-animals-have-emotions-and-morality/ And these are just two impartial websites (not vegan or vegetarian or activist websites). The degree of civism of a people, of a country can be measured by the way animals are treated there, someone said, and it is true. Animals are not objects to be pilled, brutalized, confined, barely able to move, living a life of boredom that makes them lose sanity and get stereotyped behaviors like any human would: all day looking at a wall, not moving, no intellectual stimulation, living pilled, squeezed, tortured: forced to eat until they burst , until panic: like foie gras THAT SHOULD BE BANNED IMEDIATELY…with the head on a hole to eat and lay eggs, even juvenile animals like veal: confined in small boxes/cells to get the modern days bourgeois luxury: «tender» meat…when they should be playing like any other cubs. I do not wish to eat pain, torture, suffering! Neither should anybody: did you know that toxins cumulated in farm animals, due to stress, can harm human health? And how about hormones and antibiotics that we eat like small doses of poison?! Don’t we have rights? Doesn’t the consumer have rights?! Imagine a child eating toxins, hormones, antibiotics, everyday while growing up? Will this child ever be healthy, truly healthy? I doubt it! And let us face the facts, because they are facts: ANIMALS DO HAVE EMOTIONS! Everybody knows that: having pets or not! Do you find a dog intelligent ? Certainly you do. But did you know that a poor pig confined and squeezed among others, treated badly with disrespect is in fact SMARTER THAN A DOG?! Take a look: http://www.relfe.com/pigs.html http://www.rps.psu.edu/probing/pigs.html http://abcnews.go.com/WNT/Science/story?id=771414&page=1 Now picture an animal, smarter than a dog living and dying in such torment has farm factories animals do! Chicken are not stupid: http://www.seasonalchef.com/lily.htm http://gothamist.com/2010/09/15/kaparot_1.php So why do KFC chicken are treated as objects?! Neither are cows: http://www.all-creatures.org/aip/nl-14jul2003-cows.html http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=105x4970271 Or sheep and goats: http://www.sheep101.info/stupidsheep.html Or ducks and gooses (same family): http://en.allexperts.com/q/Poultry-Farming-3481/pekin-duck.htm Or donkeys: http://www.denverpost.com/headlines/ci_10921163 Or rabbits: http://www.petplace.com/small-mammals/how-to-train-your-rabbit/page1.aspx And neither are horses or any other farm animals! http://hubpages.com/hub/The-Intelligence-of-the-Horse They know when we are mean, cruel, when there are in mean hands and suffer! A lot! And at the time of their kill…hideous treatment, lack of mercy, undignified behavior of men at slaughterhouses only make their pain, fear and panic worse. Facing the executioner in the eye, feeling what is going to happen, nervous, stressed, and even so: pushed violently, conscientious that there are being killed, their screaming that panics the others: a real horrors fair! http://omg.yahoo.com/news/bob-harper-takes-on-farm-animal-suffering/48253 As you can see, even famous people are appealing for them. You may say: killing to eat is not wrong, but never has human beings climbed so low to eat! In ancient times they were not this disrespected at all! Treated as stuff! Is shameful, disgraceful, degrading to the human race! http://www.animalsuffering.com/animal-cruelty.php As you can see for yourself here, people had enough! There can’t be no excuse or financial help for farm factory mobs that fills us in drugs and mistreat innocent creatures that do not deserve this! http://www.care2.com/news/category/animals/slaughterhouses As Linda McCartney would say: «If slaughterhouses had glass walls , the world would be vegetarian». Not only there but during their tormented life. PLEASE SIR OR MISS: MAKE IT STOP! Thank you for reading this letter.

Ladies and gentlemans of the comission:

EU is thinking of setting new slaughterhouse rules

Chickens are often stunned with an electrified "waterbath"
The European Commission says new legislation is needed to improve animal welfare at European slaughterhouses.

Current EU rules on animal slaughter are "outdated in many respects," the commission said on Thursday.

Under a new proposal, abattoirs would have to ensure proper training for staff and monitor the efficiency of their stunning equipment.

But current stunning methods would not be banned. The proposal still requires approval by all 27 EU governments.

The new legislation will not take effect until it is approved by the European Parliament and the ministries concerned - a process that could take up to three years.

The commission says each slaughterhouse should have an animal welfare officer.

The "waterbath stunner" used for poultry would not be banned, "despite its welfare disadvantages", the commission said.

Use of carbon dioxide to kill animals would still be allowed, despite the concerns expressed by scientists.

The commission says there is a lack of commercially viable alternatives to those methods of slaughter.

Minimising pain

The new proposal defines the scope of stunning and slaughter methods more strictly and states that gas stunning of birds must be irreversible.

"Stunned animals will have to be regularly monitored to ensure they do not regain consciousness before slaughter," the commission says.

Third countries exporting meat to the EU would have to meet similar standards.

But small slaughterhouses will be exempt from some of the provisions.

The proposal also covers the killing of animals for fur, the slaughter of male day-old chicks and culling for disease control purposes.

Every year nearly 360 million pigs, sheep, goats and cattle as well as several billion poultry are killed in EU slaughterhouses, the commission says.

The European fur industry accounts for another 25 million animals.

The lobby group Compassion in World Farming expressed regret that the commission failed to demand alternatives to the electrified water bath and carbon dioxide gassing methods, the AFP news agency reported.

Neil Parish MEP, Conservative chairman of the European Parliament's agriculture committee, welcomed the commission proposal.

"In the UK we already have generally high standards for slaughtering animals, but this is not the same across the EU, where standards are patchy to say the least. We need to level the playing field and these new regulations should help to do that," he said.

I support this. Please do it! thank you (nome)
